Cornwall is a great place for a family holiday this half-term. We've got a fantastic selection of accommodation to suit every budget, family friendly places to eat and plenty to see and do.
The best things in life are free:
We've got beaches, walks, parks, public gardens, cycle routes, skate parks, museums and art galleries that won't cost a penny to explore. And we all know that a good dose of fresh air does wonders to wear the little ones out.
Adventurous activities:
If your children have an adventurous nature, why not book them in for a spot of pony trekking? Or if they're old enough, leave them for a session at an adventure centre to learn new skills like abseiling or canoeing? There's even the longest zip wire in the UK to try if you're brave enough.
Gorgeous gardens:
Think gardens are not for kids? How about following the children's map trail around Trebah garden? Or get lost in the maze at Glendurgan. The famous Eden Project has a tropical rainforest to explore and the ice-skating rink is open during half term week 11-19 February, and again 20-26 February.
Animal magic:
If you like friends of the cute and furry kind there's always the zoo, a farm park or a donkey sanctuary to explore - we've even got a monkey sanctuary (except you can't leave your little monkeys there, sorry!).
History in the making:
For a bit of history why not visit the twin Tudor castles of St Mawes and Pendennis, with a discovery centre packed with hands-on activities. Fight imaginary baddies with your wooden sword and shield, or pretend to fire a cannon. The National Maritime Museum Cornwall lets the kids climb in a life raft, dress up, stage their own rescue then climb aboard a jet ski and pretend to roar off. Don't forget the underwater viewing gallery to see the fish swimming before your eyes!
Rainy days:
In February the weather can be unpredictable, but Cornwall has it covered - quite literally! From large indoor soft play areas where the kids can run wild and make plenty of noise while you sit back with a cuppa and the paper, or something more adventurous like an indoor climbing centre. You're never far away from a cinema, bowling alley or a swimming pool either. Ask at the local tourist information centre in the town where you're staying for directions.
Theme park frenzy:
Most of our paid for attractions have special rate family tickets and put on themed activities over the half term week for children. Cornwall's larger attractions such as Crealy Great Adventure Park, DairyLand Farm World, Flambards, Paradise Park and Land's End will keep your family busy all day.
And my simple pleasure? It's never too cold in Cornwall to sit on the beach with an ice-cream (especially if it's organic and locally made)!
